Search Tips

The portal search function utilizes Boolean Operators — special words or symbols that expand or narrow search parameters.

Boolean Operators
Operator Purpose Example
AND Returns results containing all specified keywords Water AND Air
OR Returns results containing at least one keyword Water OR Air
NOT Excludes specific terms from results Water NOT Sea
Quotation marks "" Finds exact phrases or precise keywords "Water Quality Objectives"
Parentheses () Groups terms and controls search order Quality AND (water OR air)
Asterisk * Matches keyword variations (end of word only) Financ*

Important Notes

  • All operators are case-sensitive and must be capitalized.
  • The search function automatically includes some related words — for instance, searching "run" may retrieve results containing "running" and "runs".
  • The asterisk wildcard only works when placed at the end of a word.
